Stump Grinding in Belleair, FL
We grind stumps, remove trees and clear storm debris for homeowners across Belleair.

Belleair has older homes, big shade trees and yards that have been planted and replanted for decades. That often leaves stumps, surface roots and palms that have outgrown their spot. We come out, look at what you have and give you a plain quote for removing it.
Belleair yards and what grows in them
A lot of Belleair is established neighbourhoods on mature lots. Many homes sit under live oaks, laurel oaks and tall palms that were planted long before the current owners moved in. Some lots back onto water or slope toward the bay, and plenty have long driveways, brick pavers, pool cages and irrigation lines running through the yard. All of that matters when a tree comes down or a stump has to go. Gulf Coast weather is hard on trees. Summer storms bring heavy rain and wind, the ground stays soft for weeks, and sandy soil does not hold big root plates well. Laurel oaks in particular tend to rot from the inside as they age, so a tree that looks fine from the street can be hollow at the base. Palms are a different problem. They grow tall, drop heavy fronds and seed pods, and when one dies the trunk can stand for a long time before it falls. In older Belleair yards it is also common to find stumps left behind by a previous owner, sometimes hidden under mulch or ground cover.
Why stumps and roots cause trouble
A stump left in the ground is not harmless. As it rots it can draw termites and other wood-boring insects, and in our climate rot moves quickly. Some species, especially certain oaks, also send up new shoots from the stump and the roots, so you end up trimming suckers every few weeks. Surface roots are the other common complaint. A large oak can push roots under a driveway, lift pavers, crack a walkway or wrap around an irrigation line. If the tree is already gone, those roots will eventually decay and can leave soft spots or sinking patches in the lawn. If the tree is still standing, grinding the problem roots can help, but cutting too much of a healthy tree's root system can weaken it. We will tell you honestly when root grinding is a reasonable fix and when the tree itself is the real issue. As a rule of thumb: if a stump is in a spot you mow, plant or walk, grind it. If roots are lifting hardscape, deal with them before the damage spreads.
Services we offer in Belleair
Stump Grinding is the most common job we do. We grind the stump below grade so you can lay sod, plant a bed or simply mow over the spot. Stump Removal goes further and takes out the main root ball, which makes sense when you plan to build, pour concrete or install something that needs solid ground. Root Grinding targets surface roots that are lifting pavers, tripping people or getting in the way of a new project. Tree Removal covers dead, leaning or unwanted trees, including ones close to the house, fences or a pool cage where the tree has to come down in sections. Tree Trimming is for clearing branches off the roof, away from power drops to the house and over driveways, and for thinning heavy canopies before storm season. Lot Clearing is for overgrown side lots, back corners and properties being prepared for work. Palm Tree Removal is its own job because palms are tall, top-heavy and often planted tight against the house. Storm Cleanup covers fallen limbs, downed trees and debris after a blow. We do not offer after-hours or emergency service, so storm work is booked during our normal hours.
What a visit looks like
First we look at the job. We check the size of the stump or tree, how close it is to the house, what is underground nearby and how we will get equipment in. Belleair yards often have gates, fences and paver driveways, so access is a real part of the plan. If you have irrigation, it helps to mark the heads and lines near the work area, because a grinder will chew through PVC. Before any digging or grinding near the property line or the street, utility lines need to be located. On the day of the work we protect what we can, set up and do the job in the order we agreed. For stump grinding, the grinder turns the stump into wood chips mixed with soil. You can keep that material to fill the hole and settle it over a few weeks, or ask us about hauling it away. For tree work we cut, lower and clean up the wood and brush. Some towns in Pinellas County have rules about removing certain trees, so if you are not sure whether a tree on your lot needs approval, check with the town before we schedule removal.
How to book
Call us at (727) 010-0002 or email info@stumpgrindingclearwater.com. Tell us what you have: how many stumps, roughly how wide they are, or which tree you want trimmed or removed. Photos help a lot, especially one that shows how we would get to the work from the street. We are based in Clearwater, which is close to Belleair, and we work Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed Sunday. Once we have seen the job, in person or from good photos, we give you a quote and a date. If anything changes on the day, such as a buried root that is bigger than it looked, we will talk it through with you before going further.
