Stump Grinding in Holiday, FL
We grind stumps and clear trees and brush for Holiday homeowners, working out of our Clearwater base.

Holiday sits in southwest Pasco County, northwest of Tampa Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. We are based in Clearwater and drive up to Holiday for stump grinding, tree removal and lot clearing. We do not have an office in Holiday, and we will tell you plainly when we can come out.
What stump grinding involves on a Holiday lot
Holiday is a suburb in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area, and most of the work we see here is on residential lots where a tree has already come down. It may have been cut for a storm, a roofline, a fence or a new patio. What is left is a stump that catches mower blades, sprouts suckers and gets in the way of whatever you want to build or plant next.
A stump grinder is a tracked or wheeled machine with a spinning wheel of carbide teeth. The operator sweeps the wheel back and forth across the stump and lowers it a little on each pass. The wood is cut into chips, usually to about 6 to 12 inches below the ground, which is deep enough for turf, a flower bed or a new sapling. Stump grinding is the main thing we do, and we handle it as a job in its own right, not as an add-on.
Stump removal, root grinding and palm stumps
Grinding versus pulling a stump
Pulling a stump with a chain or an excavator leaves a large hole and tears up the surrounding lawn, irrigation lines and sometimes the edge of a driveway. Grinding takes out the wood where it stands and leaves a smaller, softer area to fill. On most residential lots in Holiday, grinding is the cleaner choice. Full removal makes sense mainly when a stump sits where a footing or a pool will go.
Surface roots and root grinding
Large surface roots can lift pavers, crack a walkway or make a lawn impossible to mow. We can grind exposed roots down below grade where they cause trouble. We leave the deeper roots to rot, and they are not a risk to a house once the stump is gone. If a root runs close to a slab, a septic line or a buried water pipe, tell us beforehand so we can cut shallow there.
Palm stumps
Palms are common across this part of Florida, and they stump differently from hardwoods. A palm trunk is fibrous and holds a lot of moisture, with no growth rings to speak of. It grinds quickly, but it throws a lot of stringy material. The root ball is a dense mat of thin roots close to the surface, so the hole after grinding is wider and shallower than you might expect.
Services we offer in Holiday beyond stump grinding
Many homeowners call about a stump and find there is more to deal with. We can do the whole sequence in one visit when it helps.
Tree removal before the stump
If the tree is still standing, dead, leaning or too close to the house, we can take it down first. Tree removal covers palms and hardwoods, dead trees, trees near a roof and storm damage. Dropping the tree and grinding the stump on the same visit saves you a second trip and a second wait.
Lot clearing for overgrown ground
Some Holiday properties have a back corner or a side lot that has gone to brush, vines and small trees. Lot clearing covers underbrush, forestry mulching, invasive trees and bamboo. If you are about to build, fence or sell, clearing the lot and grinding the stumps together gives you ground you can work on.
A note on
Holiday's setting Holiday sits near the Gulf coast, and the Anclote power plant on Baillies Bluff Road is one of its better-known landmarks. For our work, location matters mostly for access. We are coming from Clearwater, so we plan the route and let you know a time window ahead of the visit.
What a stump grinding visit in Holiday looks like
Before we arrive
We ask for the number of stumps, roughly how wide each one is, and whether they are palm or hardwood. Photos help. We also ask about gates, fences and anything buried near the stump, such as irrigation heads, cable or a septic tank lid. Please mark or tell us about anything you know is underground.
On the day
We walk the yard with you and agree on which stumps and roots are in scope. We then bring the grinder as close as the access allows. Tight side yards often call for a smaller machine. We grind each stump below grade, work out along the main roots and rake the chips back into the hole.
After the grinding
The chips can stay in place to settle, or we can haul them off if you ask. Stump hole fill and cleanup is part of the job. Wood chips shrink as they rot, so a mound of chips will sink over time. For a lawn, fill the hole with clean soil and topdress it. For a planting bed, mix the chips in with fresh soil.
